Dr. Dawn S. Chivers is a Cum Laude graduate of Siena College and graduated with distinction from Southern California College of Optometry. She started with Drs. Kline and Boyd in 1998 and has developed into the leading scleral contact lens fitting specialist in the region. She is an unapologetic believer and advocate for the profession of optometry who has mentored numerous patients to become optometrists, just as her eye doctor did for her in high school.
Dr. Chivers provides the highest level of care by staying on the cutting edge of technology in the optometric field. She has extensive training and experience fitting specialty contact lenses, obtaining remarkable results and visual acuity for patients with corneal irregularities such as keratoconus, corneal transplants and corneal scarring. She routinely receives referrals from throughout upstate New York for her scleral lens expertise.
Dr. Chivers is a Past President of the New York State Optometric Association and a member of the American Optometric Association. She devoted 12 years to chairing the NYSOA Legislative Committee, lobbying on behalf of patients access to care across the state. This culminated in the 2021 passage of the “Orals Bill,” the largest expansion of scope for New York optometrists in in decades.
Dr. Chivers was named New York State Optometrist of the Year in 2015 and was the recipient of the Arthur Gottlieb Memorial Leadership Award in 2016. Dr. Chivers is proud to have been invited by her alma mater, Siena College, to serve on their Community Health Partners Council. Dr. Chivers was recently appointed by Governor Kathy Hochul to the SUNY College of Optometry College Council.
Dr. Chivers and her family participated in two VOSH Mission trips to the Honduras and Dominican Republic to provide desperately needed eye care and glasses to underserved populations.
